‘Tis the season for holiday decor galore! If we had to choose our favorite time of the year to decorate, it would undoubtedly be the winter because a) we can go all out and decorate to the nines and b) the color scheme is so easy to create - with greenery being, well, green, all we have to do is add white and red florals to the mix. It’s just so easy! Not to mention, the holidays are so cozy, and everyone seems to naturally want to decorate a bit more. If you’re looking for creative ways to add authentic pieces to your holiday decor this season, read on for our favorite ideas.

Authentic Wreath

If you haven’t made your own wreath before, you’re missing out! You can go to your local Christmas tree shop or use the trimmings of your tree to make an authentic wreath this year. Turn this into a weekend activity with friends to make this even more fun! All you need is a 12’’ wreath ring, tree trimmings, faux or real holly, and a bow to tie things off! It will be the perfect holiday greeting for your house guests!

Mantelpiece Decor

Nothing says holiday coziness like a decorated fireplace mantel! Use a combination of any or all of these elements to create the perfect scenery: loose pine branches, pine cones, holly berries, ornaments, candles, and bows. After you add your favorite pieces, tweak them until you get it looking just like you want it.

Dried Fruit

One of the best things about the holidays is the smells. We love to dry oranges or apple slices, and it’s so easy to do!. From there, we simply add the dried fruit to a festive bowl and pepper in cinnamon sticks to accentuate the smell. You can make one large bowl for the dining room table, make them into beautiful, natural ornaments, or even as trimmings on gifts. Your house guests will love the crisp, spicy aroma.

Poinsettias

Did you know the origins of poinsettias as the iconic Christmas flower stem from a centuries-old Mexican legend? With such a rich history of use in holiday decor and it’s bold Christmas colors, if we had to choose one flower to decorate the house with for the holidays, it would undoubtedly be the poinsettia. We love the classic look of poinsettias adorning either side of the front porch. Of course, if you want to go the extra mile, you can trim poinsettia branches and place them in bud vases to spark holiday cheer in the bathroom, on the kitchen window sill, and on a living room bar cart. Use a clear vase and also sprinkle some fresh cranberries in the water to add even more authentic pops of color!
